Regal Beaufort, North Carolina is a Crystal Coast town filled with an abundance of history. Known for being the third oldest town in North Carolina, the land area known as Beaufort was first surveyed in 1713 and was often frequented by the infamous pirate, Blackbeard. Pronounced "Bo-furt" by locals, Beaufort NC is commonly confused with the city in South Carolina and often differentiated by the pronunciation of the name. Historic Beaufort is unique in that by 1722 it was known for its seaport commerce, and by the American Revolution was the nation's third largest seaport.

Blackbeard trolled through Beaufort often, and during his visits would stay at the Hammock House, the oldest home in the city. The remains of Blackbeard's ship, The Queen-Anne's Revenge, were discovered two miles from the Beaufort Inlet in 1997, and since then many artifacts have been recovered from the wreckage and are now touring the country or on display in Beaufort's North Carolina Maritime Museum.

The North Carolina Maritime Museum located in Beaufort NC houses a wealth of knowledge from the earliest days of our country's history. Ever since the Lost Colony was established on Roanoke Island, many ships have been lost and found again in the barrier Islands of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Maritime Museum exhibits many of the artifacts that have been recovered by marine archeologists from 15 different shipwreck sites.

Another famous historic site in Beaufort NC is the Old Burying Ground. This graveyard is the final resting place for many soldiers from the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, and the Civil War. The most famous grave is of Captain Otway Burns, a Naval hero of the War of 1812. He went on to become a privateer and later a senator from nearby Swansboro NC and was responsible for building the first steamboat in North Carolina. The city of Burnsville NC is named after him.
